Product remarks

  • The unique item shown on the image is the exact item you will receive.
  • Blacksmiths bellows were sculpted in the shape of figures - like this one. These bellows used by the Fang show the skill and sculptural qualities of utilitarian objects - used daily in villages throughout West Africa. These bellows might simply consist of a pair of animal skin bags - or in a more complex form - two or four solid chambers covered with a loose diaphragm of skin. Each being pierced at the centre with a long stick which the smith's assistant would pump to produce the necessary blast. The face on this object has visuals of the Punu people from who are also from Gabon - for who the face represents their ideal of feminine beauty.
