Product remarks

  • The unique item shown on the image is the exact item you will receive.
  • Slit drums ending in a carved human head were used by diviners. Stylistically - Suku sculptures are characterized by an enlarged head with almond shaped mouth - a triangular nose and coffee bean eyes - all set under an elaborate coiffure. A slit drum is an object that forms a part of the divination ensemble. While divination is in progress the diviner taps the drum with a small gong attached to it. It is believed that the sounds made are used to call on spiritual powers and also represents words from the mouth of the diviner and in turn he must translate the sounds to reveal the cause of the misfortune inflicted upon the client.
