Product remarks

  • The unique item shown on the image is the exact item you will receive.
  • This is a beautiful old supply/offerings box (byeri) the bottom part is made out of bark. The upper part consists in a lid with a finely carved male figurine who is in a seated posture. This byeri was used for the storing of the ancestors and for the sacrifices made to them. The Byeri relic guardian figurines are certainly the most mysterious and emblematic of the African art. A Byeri consists of two parts; the bottom part which is made of the bark of trees is called Nsekh O Byeri by the Fang which means Body. The figurine which stands on top of the lid they call O Eyema Byeri which means head.
